You Don’t Have to Be an Expert to Share Your Faith.

Have you ever felt like you needed to be an expert on the Bible before you could share your faith?

I get it! I’ve been there.

You think, How can I share my faith when I haven’t read the whole Bible?

What if they ask questions I can’t answer?

How can I talk about Jesus when I don’t even have it all together myself?

Then I read this verse...

“Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, ‘Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?’” – John 4:28-29

The Samaritan woman didn’t have a theology degree. She didn’t know all the Scriptures. She had simply met Jesus at a well, and that one encounter was enough to send her running back to town with one simple message:

“Come and see.”Now, don’t get me wrong; studying and knowing God’s Word matters.

Psalm 1:2 reminds us that “they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.”

But too often, we wait until we feel qualified before we open our mouths. We think we need to know every verse, understand every doctrine, or have a perfect testimony before we can talk about our faith.

But Jesus didn’t call us to be experts — He called us to be witnesses.

And what does a witness do?

They simply tell their story.

This woman’s testimony wasn’t polished, but it was powerful. She told what Jesus had done for her, and that raw honesty stirred up curiosity in others. They came to see Him for themselves.

Your story can do the same.

When you share how God brought you through, forgave you, healed you, or gave you peace — people listen. They wonder, “If Jesus did that for her/him, could He do that for me?”

You don’t have to be an expert to be used by God. A real witness shares their experience, and that’s enough to spark curiosity.

So if you’ve been holding back out of fear or insecurity, take this as your reminder: God can use your story right where you are.

Prayer:

Father God, thank You that we get to be witnesses of Your goodness.

Forgive us for the times we’ve stayed silent, doubting that our story was enough.

Thank You that we don’t have to have every answer before we share our faith.

Fill us with boldness and confidence to tell others about the ways You’ve worked in our lives — so that they might see You for themselves.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection:

Take a moment to write one way Jesus has met you personally. What’s one thing He’s done in your life that you can share this week?
