“If You Say So” Faith

Scripture: Luke 5:1-10
Has God ever asked you to do something that felt absolutely impossible?
In Luke 5, we see Jesus teaching by the Sea of Galilee. After speaking to the crowd from Peter’s boat, He turns to Peter and says,
“Now go out where it is deeper and let down your nets to catch some fish.” (v. 4)
Peter responds honestly:
“Master, we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” (v. 5)
Let that sink in: “If you say so.”

Peter had every reason to say no. He had already tried. He was tired. Nothing had worked. But still—he obeyed.
And what happened?
“This time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear… both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.” (v 6-7)
That’s what I call “If You Say So” faith.
REAL TALK:
I’ve been Peter. Maybe you have too.
God speaks something to your heart, and the first thing you do is look at your circumstances. You start listing all the reasons it won’t work:
“I’m too old.”
“I’m too busy.”
“I tried that already.”
“What will people think?”
But here’s the truth: God isn’t looking for your excuses—He’s looking for your obedience.
Peter obeyed, and the result was more than he could handle. Sounds a lot like Ephesians 3:20 to me:
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…”

WHERE DO YOU NEED TO TRY AGAIN?
Where have you given up too soon?
What’s that thing God told you to do, and you’re still sitting on it?
It might be time to repent, get back up, and cast your net again.
You don’t need all the answers—you just need enough faith to say:
“If You Say So, Lord.”
PRAYER:
Father God,
Thank You for Your Word and the reminder to trust You in all things. I repent for doubting You and for all the excuses I’ve made. Forgive me for delayed obedience. I surrender. I’m willing to try again. Strengthen the parts of my heart that still struggle to believe. Give me the courage to move even when I feel afraid.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
